About Us
Sir Richard Hill 2nd Baronet of Hawkstone (1733-1808) took over his fathers estate in 1783 and as part of extending the follies, engaged landscape gardener William Emes to build a vast man-made lake called THE HAWK RIVER. (Also the Windmill )
In the late 1800’s till at least 1901 the lake was farmed (lake is in three sections and each section could be drained) and produce grown, this would be done by draining a section ploughing, growing food, then flooding that section and draining another, this is why the depth of the lake is similar all the way up.
WEM ANGLING CLUB IS A MEMBERS ONLY CLUB BASED AROUND WEM IN THE COUNTY OF SHROPSHIRE. IT OWNS A NUMBER OF LOCAL WATERS AND, FROM TIME TIME, RENTS ADDITIONAL WATERS. THE CLUB CATERS FOR ALL TYPES OF ANGLER (OTHER THAN SEA!!!) AND WELCOMES THE YOUNG, OLD AND DISABLED. HOWEVER, DAY TICKETS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

24 July 17 – Details of the one proposal received for the AGM and nominations received to date are on the AGM 2017 page. Please read – it affects your club!
16 June 17 – The AGM is due to be held on Thursday 7 Sept 17. If you wish to have something included on the Agenda then please follow the procedure detailed in the Constitution. In short, you need to submit your proposal, in writing, to the Committee by 8.00pm on Thursday 6 July 17. The proposal must have a proposer and seconder who need to be present at the AGM. Contact me if you need more information.
